When choosing the right cane for yourself or a family member, there are some basic guidelines to consider:

Fit: For proper cane height, measure from the ground to your wrist joint while stand naturally with your arms at your sides with a relaxed bend at the elbow.
Supports you weight: For safety reasons, only purchase a cane which is strong enough to support your entire weight.
Base: We recommend a solid rubber tipped base to keep the base of the cane from slipping. There are also canes with spikes which are great for winter travel.
Handle design: Purchase a cane that offers a comfortable handle that will make supporting yourself easier. The "crook" or "standard" handle is the most popular and provides excellent stability. The "derby" handle is more decorative but offers less stability than the crook. The offset handle is quite comfortable yet is not the best choice for people with arthritic hands. Decorative ball handles are just that and are not recommended for anything more than making a fashion statement.
